You may have seen TV adverts. designed to alert employers to the requirement that from a date in November, as yet unannounced, the Government has said that any one wishing to bring foreign workers to the UK for employment must be licensed as an employer. The application process opened in February of this year but, as yet, few prospective employers have applied for licences. While the Government has issued an assurance that if an application is received by 1 October it will be decided in time for an employer to be licensed before the PBS comes into effect, after 1 October there may be long delays until the service standard comes into effect on 1 April. After this date the service standard will be that a decision on a licence application will be made in 4 weeks.
